ABOUT TELA
Tela James is a southern Rap Legend from Memphis, TN who started rapping in the 90’s and has maintained a career that spans two decades. His latest release “Celebrate”, produced by platinum producer Blac Elvis, is a feel good celebration of life with a sound reminiscent of a night in Las Vegas. It is the lead single off of his forthcoming “Grown Rap” project which has a soulful sound mixed with elements of hip-hop, blues and jazz. Production on the album will include tracks from fellow Memphis creatives Jazze Phae, Drumma Boy, Blac Elvis and Atlanta’s own Cory Mo.
Tela infuses Memphis soul with funk, rock and the grass root sound of Southern hip-hop. He began his career in the late 1990's and shortly thereafter landed a deal with Suave House Records. He dropped his critically acclaimed debut album “Piece of Mind” which is considered a Southern classic. In 1997 he found himself at Rap-A-Lot Records home to multi-platinum artists Scarface and Ghettoboys. His hits include “ShoNuff” featuring Jazze Pha, “Tired of Ballin” and “Sex Faces” with Scarface and Too Short.
Tela has formed an independent label 1520 which is based in Atlanta and features several talented artists. After a break from the industry, Tela is back and better than ever ready to reintroduce himself to both old and new fans.
